Podere Vocabolo is restored farmhouse within easy walking distance of the Umbrian village of Paciano. The Podere has been divided into four apartments but works well when taken by a larger group, with space for privacy and for congenial meals and time by the private pool. There are beautiful views of Lake Trasimeno in the distance and you'll find shops, cafes and restaurants in Paciano, making this a great spot for families.
Around the Podere there is plenty of space to relax and run around in two and a half acres of lawn, olive trees and fruit trees. The house and the apartments are simple and unpretentious but have all the ingredients for a relaxing holiday - there is space, a great pool, and the nearby village is lively, and is sometimes made even more lively when its most famous resident, Ed Sheeran, is around!
There are beautiful views from the Podere over Paciano, recently voted one of the most beautiful villages of Italy, and over the countryside around the ancient hill towns of Città della Pieve, Chiusi, Cortona and Montepulciano, as well as over Lake Trasimeno and its islands.
The village and the closest restaurant are a 300 metre walk away, 5 or 10 minutes slightly uphill.
Podere Vocabolo is listed under the following categories:
Podere Vocabolo is a restored farmhouse with four apartments, Alloro for 8, Cardo for 6, Palo & Frasca both for 4.
Unusually, there are two front doors, both sheltered under a shaded alcove. On the right, you enter a fully equipped kitchen with a dining table, while on the left you enter a living room with a fireplace. From the kitchen you can access a ground floor double bedroom with an ensuite bathroom, while from the living room you can climb the stairs to the upper floor.
On the first half-landing you'll find a first twin bedroom, while on the top floor you will find a further ensuite double and twin bedroom with an external bathroom shared with the twin bedroom on the stairs.
Cardo is a standalone building separate from the main farmhouse. It has two bedrooms, a twin and a double, so two guests will be on a large double sofa-bed in the living room.
It has its own independent entrance and, like all these apartments, has been decorated simply and interestingly with a mix of vintage furniture. The focus is a large living/dining room which opens out directly to the gardens. A galley kitchen opens off here, and upstairs you will find a double bedroom, a twin and a bathroom. The extra two guests will be on a large double sofa-bed in the living room.
The entrance is straight into a living room with a fireplace, a galley kitchen is tucked under the stairs and has a window with views out over towards Lake Trasimeno. A staircase leads up to the upper floor where you'll find a double bedroom and a twin which both share a bathroom.
To the right of the entrance a terrace has a small table and chairs, a lovely place to sit and relax with an aperitivo looking out at the view.
Palo is on the ground floor of the large old farmhouse near the village of Paciano. On one side it looks out towards the village while on the other side it has a large wooden pergola providing shade and a great spot to eat al-fresco.
The apartment has its own independent entrance and, like all these apartments, has been decorated simply and interestingly with a mix of vintage furniture. It has a large double bedroom and a twin which share a bathroom.
Podere Vocabolo is within easy walking distance of the medieval Umbrian village of Paciano (considered among the "most beautiful villages of Italy") and its excellent restaurants, coffee bars and other facilities. It is also the italian home of Ed Sheeran who is sometimes seen at local events or in the local restaurants - by all accounts he is friendly and approachable, and certainly a great supporter of the beauty of the local area and of Paciano itself.
Nearby Lake Trasimeno, with a circumference of over 45km and depth of up to 6m is carefully nurtured and environmentally protected. It provides not only fish, but good swimming, water sports and sailing. Ferries provide transport to the islands and guided tours of the lake.
This whole district caters well for hikers and bikers and you can hire horses and mountain bikes with which to follow the well conceived trails. Of the many artists who have featured in its long history, perhaps the mannerist Perugino is the most famous, and his paintings may be seen in beautiful localities.
Straddling Umbria and Tuscany, a stay in Podere Vocabolo allows easy access to both, and a myriad of fascinating places in between. Or you can simply relax and enjoy the climate, the music, food, and views from this comfortable, hospitable country house.
