Originally constructed as a lookout guard tower in the first half of the 1600s by Ferdinand II of the Medici, Villa Francesca served as a strategic post for a small group of soldiers tasked with guarding against potential enemies. Today, this historic villa offers a breathtaking panorama over the Valtiberina and the rolling Tuscan hills.
The villa has recently undergone a careful restoration while retaining all the features of a typical Tuscan country house. It now has a large swimming pool complete with sunbeds, umbrellas, and a gazebo, providing a perfect spot for relaxation, or guests can use the heated Jacuzzi by the pool. On a lower garden level you'll find a charming patio and an al-fresco dining table that accommodates up to 10 people. The expansive 2-hectare garden is lovingly maintained by the owners and boasts olive trees, organic peach and plum trees, as well as roses, lavender, and rosemary. For those who enjoy outdoor activities, the property offers a small football pitch, a ping pong table, and the opportunity for leisurely strolls through the surrounding oak woods. Villa Francesca offers a blend of history, natural beauty, and modern comfort for an unforgettable Tuscan experience.
Francesca is listed under the following categories:
Villa Francesca is a Tuscan country house, characterized by its elegant simplicity. The building has been carefully restored to provide guests with all modern conveniences while keeping the original style, evident in every detail, from its wooden doors to the wrought-iron used in the outdoor furniture. This ensures that guests can experience the best of both worlds during their stay at Villa Francesca.
The villa features a spacious and well-equipped kitchen, a dining room with an antique fireplace, and a reading room
The kitchen comes complete with essential appliances, including a fridge, microwave oven, stove with burners, American coffee machine, toaster, and dishwasher. The dining room is designed to accommodate up to 10 people and is furnished with a sofa and armchairs, and equipped with a satellite TV, and telephone. An antique fireplace adds to the room's character. The reading room features a Stereo HI FI Bluetooth system, providing a pleasant space for leisure and relaxation.
The first floor offers four ensuite bedrooms furnished with antiques.
Two are double bedrooms and two are twins, and most of them can be converted into double or twin bedrooms on request. This setup provides flexibility and comfort for guests, making it suitable for various group compositions and preferences.
Villa Francesca has a distinctive tower with a separate entrance from the main villa. The tower's ground floor includes a cozy sitting room with a divan and table, as well as a comfortable bathroom featuring a shower. Upstairs on the first floor, you'll find a double bedroom with a spacious terrace that provides stunning views of the valley.
Villa Francesca is a luxurious 250-square-meter villa located just a 5-minute drive from the village of Monterchi, where the Italian Renaissance master Piero della Francesca painted one of his most famous frescoes, “La Madonna del Parto”, in the 14th century, now held in the Museum of Monterchi.
The location is also ideal for reaching the cities and towns in Umbria, the shores of Tuscany's 'inland sea' Lake Trasimeno and the splendid Tuscan art cities of Cortona and Arezzo. One of the 12 most important Etruscan cities, Arezzo remained prominent in Roman times for its fine pottery and important throughout the Middle Ages thanks to powerful bishops and its artisans who excelled in goldsmithing and textiles.
Piero della Francesca, the painter of the pregnant madonna, is perhaps best known for his series of frescoes that capture the city's history, scenes of which are easily imagined in the city's beautiful Piazza Grande. Arezzo hosts both the Saracen Joust in late June and early September as well as monthly Antiquarian Fairs that fill the streets with fascinating pickings.
With excellent access to major motorways and scenic country roads, you can also easily explore the ancient cities of Siena and Florence. And what a joy it is to return to Villa Francesca, where you'll be greeted by its breathtaking panorama over the Valtiberina and Tuscan hills.
