A trullo is a characteristic round, white stone cottage with a cone-shaped roof ingeniously made with small stacked stones. These buildings are typical of a particular region of Puglia, centred around Alberobello and Ceglie Messapica. Once farming buildings, today some of them have been modernized, like our fine Trullo Olievo, which has been lovingly restored by a young family and furnished with a confident sense of style and detail.

The area around Ceglie Messapica and Alberobello is famously known for the typical stone buildings known as "Trulli" (plural of Trullo). These charming buildings have been constructed in the area for centuries, those the period of maximum expansion was in the 15th century, after the emission of an edict by the Kingdom of Naples that taxed new urban settlements. The ingenuity of the local people led to these buildings that could be demolished with ease: if a king’s delegate showed up to demand payment, it was enough to remove the keystone and the houses would collapse, instantly transformed into tax-free piles of stones.
