Villa Alta is an striking stone building set in the ruins of a Tuscan castle that once protected the entrance to the higher Arno valley, on the road between Pisa and Florence. The walls, towers and some internal buildings remain of the castle, including the church of San Nicolau, and a restaurant with fabulous views over the Arno valley.
The building of Villa Alta was once a welcoming pilgrims' hostal and has today been transformed into a beautiful holiday villa, placed in prime position at the edge of the fortified hamlet with amazing panoramic views. The swimming pool is an out-of-ground one because of the delicacy of this archeological site, but is easily accessed on the flat because of the ground's terracing. Closer the the house a jacuzzi is surrounded by lush trees.

Villa Alta is a medieval stone building but the interior has been deliberately converted with a modern style and one is aware of the difference between the original fabric and the conversion.
You enter into a living room, with exposed stairs leading up to the first floor and with two ensuite doubles to your right, both of which enjoy wonderful views. Beyond the living/dining room you will find a well-equipped kitchen with amenities such as a dishwasher, fridge, freezer, stove top, oven, Italian coffee machine, washing machine.
The first floor has three ensuite doubles, one of which has two single beds in a communicating room between the double and its ensuite bathroom, making is best suited to children - but sized for adults too should you choose.
Villa Alta is within Monsummano Alto, the remains of the ancient castle on the hill still with nearly with intact elliptical walls. Within the castle there is also a beautiful church, a few other buildings and an excellent restaurant that you can easily walk to from the house.
Montecatini Terme and Montecatini Alto are a just a short drive away, including "Grotta Giusti", a luxury spa centered around a cave with thermal waters bubbling up inside. The historic cities of Pistoia, Florence, Lucca and Pisa are all under an hour's drive away.
If you head north you can easily reach the Apennine mountains, beautiful valleys with villages and restaurants to explore.
