An elegant villa for 14 on the foothills of the apennine mountains just north of Lucca, Villa Bartolomeo has been recently and painstakingly restored to its former 18th-century glory. Today it has all the elegance and charm of a bygone era coupled with the amenities that make modern life comfortable; it has a beautiful private pool set in formal gardens, a lift, AC throughout and spacious comfortable bedrooms.
The views from the villa are wonderful, ranging over the Serchio river valley towards the jewel of a city that is Lucca, just a 10 minute drive away. This is a villa for those who want to experience the delights of Tuscany in all their glory: the owners are experts at organising all sorts of tours, experiences, and culinary delights. From private chefs in the villa to picnics on wild and lesser-known beaches, night tours of museums and guided visits to the fabulous historic villas and gardens in the area, nothing is too much trouble.
Villa Bartolomeo is listed under the following categories:
This historic villa has elegant and spacious rooms throughout, with high painted vaulted ceilings and antique furniture. One enters the villa into a beautiful living room with tall windows that face a long-reaching view towards the Tuscan countryside and Lucca. The room is centred on a fireplace and furnished with comfortable sofas. On the other side of the entrance hall a spacious dining room is ready for those few days you might not wish to dine outside, al-fresco, under the furnished and shaded pergola.
At the back of the house you'll find the studio, a quiet room for those who might need to do some work while away, a service bathroom, and the kitchen, where the owners' respect for the past and enthusiasm for the future is most apparent, with the original kitchen maintained and restored, including a wonderful working fireplace with charcoal burners, as well as a large stone sink, paired with a wall of modern kitchen appliances.
There is also a lift to reach the further two floors with ease. On the first floor the master bedroom is a vast bedroom with windows facing the view towards Lucca, and a large bathroom with a claw-footed bathtub and a large shower. An ensuite double bedroom as well as an ensuite twin bedroom complete this floor. On the second and last floor the vaulted ceilings of the lower floors change to impressive ceilings of wooden beams and rafters, sloping down from the central ridge. On this floor there are two doubles with ensuite bathroom, as well as two twin bedrooms which share a bathroom.
The villa is surrounded by its gardens, with a large lawned and gated section to the left (if facing the villa) with a private pool, shaded pergola and sun-furniture. Behind the villa an annex, the 'limonaia', can be used for staff or for extra guests on request, please ask us about this. It has a double bed, a bathroom and a kitchen, making it a self-contained unit that can sleep 2 to 4.
Though it's undeniably tempting to fully indulge in the amenities at Villa Bartolomeo, the villa also serves as an ideal starting point for exploring the prominent attractions of Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Pistoia and the captivating seaside destinations of Versilia, including Forte dei Marmi and Viareggio.
Lucca, just a short 15-minute drive from the villa, holds the distinction of being an Italian "Città d'arte" or "City of Art" due to its remarkably preserved Renaissance walls, originally constructed as a defensive fortification and later transformed into a pedestrian promenade. Lucca is also surrounded by beautiful historic villas worth visiting - Historic Villas of Lucca
Torre del Lago, home to the internationally renowned open air Puccini opera festival, is just half an hour's drive away and the perfect place to see some fabulous opera: Puccini Festival.
