Italian Honeymoon Villas

Italy is the most romantic of destinations and Tuscany a jewel in Italy. But not all Romantic retreats are the same - here is a list of our five best villas in Tuscany and Umbria for couples and honeymoons.

Some are best for relaxing with champagne and romance, others perfect as a base for long walks in the hills, returning to a simple meal in front of a stunning view.

1. Casa Andrea

Tuscany Honeymoon villa close to San Gimignano

San Gimignano | For food and history lovers

The view from the covered pergola of Casa Andrea is fabulous

Casa Andrea is a very recent addition to our houses, and is a very well-appointed cottage on a ridge just 3km away from San Gimignano. With underfloor heating and a Jacuzzi hot tub perfectly placed to take in the long-reaching views over Chianti, this is a house that has space for four, with two double bedrooms, but I think is ideal for a romantic getaway, a place to re-kindle romance or perhaps to propose and take the your relationship to the next step!

2. Scuderia

Romantic retreat in a medieval church

Roccastrada, Maremma | For a real getaway

Scuderia
Scuderia is a magical setting for a romantic getaway
A large romantic apartment, focused on a beautiful four poster bed under the arched spaces of one of the old agricultural buildings in this ex-monastery, this is the perfect place to relax. With a sitting room inside and an enormous covered loggia outside, there is plenty of space for comfort, and the swimming pool is a short walk down the hill.

Scuderia is located in Pieve di Caminino, a little hamlet in the beautiful Maremma countryside between Roccastrada and Massa Marittima, is set in a natural, verdant amphitheatre, with enormous olive groves extending down from the wooded, rocky background towards the coast.

3. Noce

Cottage within walking distance of a Tuscan village

Casole d'Elsa, Siena | For village life

Noce Cottage
Noce is surrounded by vineyards
Noce is a converted little house by a Tuscan farm, with a village within walking distance, and a swimming pool at the bottom of the garden. Set on a small working farm, this small, converted hay barn has its own private patio, overlooking the farm's land.

Being close to a village is a wonderful experience: a brief walk will take you into Casole d'Elsa, which boasts several cafes and restaurants, a couple of grocery stores, and even a couple of tiny art galleries for resident artists. Walk up for breakfast, then buy some fresh produce and wander home for a fresh lunch and spend the afternoon by the pool; it's a real Tuscan delight.

4. Casa Carina

Umbrian Cottage with Private Pool

Todi. Umbria | To really get away from it all

Umbria Honeymoon Cottage
This cottage feels hidden away in the Umbrian hills, but Todi, Orvieto and Perugia are all close by
A short way outside Todi, near the village of Collelungo, this house is perched on the side of an Umbrian hill, with great views over the landscape. The pool is an out of ground one, but it is deep enough and large enough for refreshing swims.

Tuscany Villa for two with a Tennis Court and Pool

San Giovanni Valdarno, Florence | For Tennis lovers

Treggiaia is a rare find, a small villa with a Tennis court and pool
This little house has a swimming pool directly in front of the house and a tennis court just to the right, making it perfect for those who love to stay active on holiday. If Tennis and swimming aren't enough, there are stables nearby that will allow one to discover the surroundings slowly on horseback and shopping outlets within 1/2 hr. for those whose preferences turn to Italian styling and a good bargain. When you want to explore the famous cities there is a train station at the bottom of the hill with easy access to Florence, Arezzo and Rome by train.
